Courtney Lake, Sally Yon, Andrew Forrest, and Paige Nichols of Saluda County, Haley Bishop of Lexington County, Seth Steedly and Jonathan Graham of Charleston County, Amber Ettinger of Laurens County, Ashley Reynolds of Lee County, and Elizabeth Chapple of York County each received a $500 scholarship and a trip to National 4-H Congress in Atlanta. The 4-H’ers submitted portfolios to be eligible for the state award. The portfolio’s are designed to help senior 4-H members prepare a comprehensive summary of their involvement in the 4-H program and the impact it has made on their life. Portfolios are judged and scores are used in the selection process for National 4-H Congress, National 4-H Conference, and 4-H Presidential Tray Awards. Leadership plays a big role in the selection process. 4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship and life skills. The South Carolina 4-H Youth Development Program uses a learn-by-doing approach, the involvement of caring adults, the knowledge and resources of Clemson University and the land grant university system to empower youth to become healthy, productive and contributing members of society. To learn more about joining 4-H or becoming a volunteer, contact your local Clemson Extension office or visit the state 4-H web site at www.clemson.edu/4h. END
