Adopt a wild horse or burro at Garrison arena Sept. 7-9

CLEMSON – Clemson University’s T. Ed Garrison Livestock Arena is hosting a wild horse and burro adoption Sept. 7-9.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will be offering approximately 80 wild horses from America’s range lands, ranging up to 5 years of age. A limited number of burros will be available.

The application process can be completed onsite throughout the event.

On Friday, Sept 7, beginning at noon, the animals will be available for viewing. Saturday, Sept. 8, beginning at 8 a.m., participants may start the adoption process through oral bids. The minimum adoption fee is $125. Following the oral bid adoption, remaining animals are available for adoption on a walk-up basis until 5 p.m. and on Sunday, Sept. 9, at 8 a.m.

As an added bonus, any applicant who is approved for two or more animals and adopts an animal at full price first may also adopt a second animal for $25.

The BLM manages approximately 258 million acres of land mostly located in 12 western states. Their mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands. They monitor information to determine if the herds are healthy and are damaging rangelands within the herd management area. When numbers grow too large, the BLM removes some of the animals and places them in its adoption program.

The event will be held at the cattle complex. For more information, visit the BLM website at: http://wildhorseandburro.blm.gov/ or call Charles Williams, arena director, at (864) 646-2718.
