Location: Strom Thurmond Institute, Clemson University Winter Lecture Series - February 10 Historic Southern plants and gardens with Jim Cothran The story of plants in Southern gardens reflects where they’ve come from, where they’ve been grown, and how they’ve been ‘passed along.’ It’s both one of who’s who of southern plants, while at the same time, a story of people and their passion for beautiful and interesting plants. Jim Cothran’s expert knowledge of the origins of Southern plants and Southern gardening traditions draws on his long-term historical research and is beautifully illustrated in his program. A native South Carolinian, Jim Cothran is an award-winning landscape architect, practicing at Roberts & Co in Atlanta. A frequent lecturer on southern garden history, his book Gardens and Historic Plants of the Antebellum South was published by USC Press in 1993 and is an excellent contribution to the history of plants and gardening in the American South. Copies will be available at the program. Tuition: $8 for FRIENDS and $12 for public per session, or $28 for
FRIENMDS and $38 for public for four Saturday series sessions.
