Nature of Quilts Exhibit – Dixie Haywood & Dottie Moore – July 2 through September 30

This must-see exhibit of quilts from two talented South Carolina quilters. Dixie Haywood, “Who’s Who in American Quilting” has authored several books, is a certified teacher and judge. Her traditional quilts are the most colorful and intricate. Dottie Moore’s style is toward the abstract and art quilt design. The depth of field, color and flow of these quilts draw you in to each one like a painting. $2 suggested donation supports the gallery. July 2 through Sept. 30.

THE WORK OF ELIZABETH BELSER FULLER – Ongoing

A permanent exhibit of watercolors, acrylics and mixed media works by native South Carolinian and special friend of the Garden, Elizabeth Belser Fuller. The collection ranges from 1947 to 2005 and includes a collection of paintings from the island of Dominica and quilt “Garden Escape” by Marilyn Wall and Diana Pickens that was commissioned by Fuller in 2005. $2 suggested donation supports the gallery.

First Friday Nature Walk – July 6

Meet at the Red Caboose for an informative walk with naturalist and Clemson University Professor David Bradshaw. Wear comfortable shoes and appropriate dress. Walks generally last between one and two hours.

Fee: Free

Time: 7 a.m.

Location: Meet at the Red Caboose Parking Area

FOUNDATION YOGA - Wednesdays, July 11, 18, 25

Foundation Yoga class is an excellent class for students who are interested in exploring the fundamentals of yoga poses. The focus of each class will be in developing an understanding of the poses while linking them with breath and awareness. Breathwork and meditation will also be emphasized. Students looking for pre-natal yoga will find this class to be helpful in managing their pregnancy and at the same time preparing them for labor and delivery. Bring a yoga mat and wear comfortable clothes. Class size is limited to 12 students per session so, pre-registration is suggested though drop-ins are welcome.

Tuition: $12 drop-in per class or $50 for 5 classes

FLOW YOGA – Wednesdays, July 11, 18, 25

Flow Yoga class focuses on ashtanga vinyasa style yoga and provides a well-rounded workout to yoga students. This style of yoga challenges students of all levels and abilities through a sequence of postures that build strength and flexibility. The breathwork and meditation practiced in class reduces stress, induces relaxation, and brings clarity of mind. Renee is a practitioner of ashtanga vinyasa yoga and encourages all students to strive for a sense of wholeness and appreciation for where and who they are. Bring a yoga mat and wear comfortable clothes. Class size is limited to 12 students per session so, pre-registration is suggested though drop-ins are welcome.

Summer Delights Hike – July 17

Join Geology Museum educator Christian Cicimurri on this fun summertime walk. Seek out highlights of summer blooming flowers, stream life and nature in the garden. This event will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather.

Fee: FREE

Location: Meet in the Discovery Center parking lot

3rd SATURDAY EVENT - ASK THE EXPERTS GARDENING DAY – July 21

Stop by and get your gardening questions answered by the experts. Members of Master Gardeners of the Foothills will be on hand to answer plant and gardening questions for spring and summer. Ongoing through September.

Nature of Quilts Symposium – July 21

Join us for this fun day of quilting with featured artists Dottie Moore and Dixie Haywood. Moore ’s class “Just Full of MySelf, Unleashing Your Creativity” will get your senses flowing and spark your intuition to use in your quilt designs. Haywood’s class “Crazy Quilting with a Difference” will show you from basic to advanced methods of incorporating crazy quilting into your quilts to give added texture. Registration 8 - 8:45 am with coffee and danish. Classes start at 9 am. Lunch included. Check web site for supply lists.

Tuition: $90, includes lunch and refreshments.

No matter what your background or the time you have available, there is a place for you at the SC Botanical Garden. Volunteer opportunities are available in grounds maintenance and gardening, education programs, special events and visitor services. Garden Gift Shops
The Garden Gift Shop and the Campbell Geology Museum Gift Shop offer unique gifts for children and adults. Beautiful handcrafted gift items by local artists, gardening and geology books, t-shirts, logo items, jewelry and more. The Garden Gift Shop now carries live plants, is located at the Fran Hanson Discovery Center and is open Mon.-Sat. 10am – 4pm. The Campbell Geology Museum is open Wed. – Sat. 10am – 5pm and Sunday 1:00 – 5:00pm. Call 864-656-3405 for more information.

GARDEN HOURS OF OPERATION:

S.C. Botanical Garden is open from dawn until dusk 365 days a year. Discovery Center & Garden Gift Shop Hours: Mon.–Sat., 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Geology Museum Hours: Wed. – Sat., 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sun. 1-5 p.m. Admission: $3/adults and $2/children 12 and under. Annual passes available.

The Garden is located on the Clemson University campus at the intersection of Highway 76 and Perimeter Road. It encompasses 295 acres of gardens, streams and woodlands, and is open year-round from sunrise to sunset, free of charge.
