Therapeutic Vinyasa Yoga - Tuesdays
Geared for the beginner or intermediate level, this style is a unification of breath and movement where the breathing is steady and movement flows at the pace of a breath. The sequences of asana or exercises are placed in a nice order to help the body flow from seated poses, to standing poses, to balance poses, to backbends, to twists and forward bends, to supine poses (lying on your back) and prone poses (lying on your stomach). Instructor, Phaedra Kennedy, will gently and compassionately guide you through a relaxation at the end of the sequence in savasana. At this time the therapeutic effects of the intense exercises can be absorbed and appreciated by the participant.

Hours: 5:45-6:45pm
Fee: $12 drop-in per class, $50 for 5 classes (CU student rate $8/class or 6 for $35)

Location: Hayden Conference Center

Students looking for pre-natal yoga will find this class to be helpful in managing their pregnancy and at the same time preparing for labor and delivery. Bring a yoga mat and wear comfortable clothes. Class size is limited to 12 students per session so, pre-registration is suggested though drop-ins are welcome.

PLANTS FOR LAKESHORE RESTORATION - November 13

Our area's lakes present a number of challenges to prevent erosion but provide a stable and ecologically sound lakeshore. Dyck has an ongoing, active research and consulting program on lakeshore restoration and speaks frequently about shoreline and watershed issues. Dyck is professor emeritus of biological sciences at Clemson University.

WATERWISE GARDENING 101 - November 15

Last summer's record heat and continuing drought was a stress for many plants, including many usually tough species in our gardens and natural areas. In this program, Karen Russ, horticulture specialist for the Clemson University Home and Garden Information Center, will discuss how to choose drought-tolerant plants for different areas and the different strategies that drought-tolerant plants use. Then, she’ll talk about how to make your garden less reliant on additional water through careful plant selection and mulching. This program will be a combination of an illustrated presentation and interactive discussion.

ANDEAN HIGHLANDS OF ECUADOR - November 27

Ecuador has long been deservedly a favorite ecotourism destination because of the Galapagos Islands, the diversity of its mountains and richness of its Amazonian basin headwaters. Lisa Wagner and her husband Tim Spira discovered the impressive biodiversity of the Andean highlands on a recent winter trip and found it full of amazing natural areas. They traveled from the El Angel Reserve near the Guatemalan border to the paramos on the flaks of some of Ecuador's largest volcanoes to sub-tropical cloud forests. Join Wagner to share some of the images and experiences of visiting a fascinating part of the world and discover why they want to return for a longer period.
