South Carolina legislators passed into law that all businesses applying pesticides on other people’s property, and government employees applying pesticides to public property must have a licensed individual to oversee the application of these pesticides. This includes all herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides applied to maintain pest problems in the landscape. The law went into effect on Jan.1, 2006. Classes will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m., Oct, 23, 25, 30, and Nov. 1, at the York County Office Complex in Building 103 at 1070 Heckle Blvd., Rock Hill. Materials for the Core exam and the Category 3 (Turf and Ornamentals) exam will be covered. Cost of the training is $70 and participants will be provided with the Core and Category 3 study manuals. The course fee is $30 if attendees already have the study manuals. The pesticide license exams will be offered Nov. 13, 14, and 15 in Columbia, Florence, and Charleston respectively. The fees for the exams are $75 for the Core and $25 for the Category 3. Participants will be given the registration information for the exam. Registration and payment should be submitted to Clemson Extension Service, P.O. Box 669, York, SC 29745, no later than Oct. 12. Make check payable to York County Extension Fund. The training will be limited to the first 40 applicants. For more information, contact Paul Thompson at (803) 684-9919 ext. 112 or by email at pthmpsn@clemson.edu. END
