Finding the competitive edge. Bob Becker, director of the Strom Thurmond Institute on Government and Public Affairs at Clemson University, talks with Randall Kempner, vice president on regional innovation at the Council on Competitiveness in Washington, DC, who addressed the conference: “Are We a Competitive Force - The need for a World-class Sustainable Workforce” held Oct. 2 in Greenville.

Biofuels from bacteria. Peter Kent talks with Caye Drapcho, associate professor in the Clemson University Biosystems Engineering program, about her research into bioprocessing and bioenvironmental engineering.

The Ninth Fine Art Annual . The Charleston Fine Art Dealers' Association co-sponsors an event taking place this weekend in historic downtown Charleston , featuring more than 20 nationally renowned artists whose works are showcased in the member galleries of the Charleston Fine Art Dealers' Association. Presented in partnership with the Charleston Art Auction, the events take place Nov. 2, 3, and 4, with proceeds going towards the purchase of much-needed art supplies in nine of the area high schools.

Infamy at the Jones Hotel . Bruce Burgy narrates the story of the haunted “four corners of law” in downtown Charleston from Palmetto Ghosts: Lurid Low Country Legends of Madness, Mayhem nd Murder, a CD produced by Cornbread and Caviar Productions, Inc. of Folly Beach .

Vampire Von Hickey. Upstate story-teller Monty Tucker performs an original ghost story that offers a new take on an old legend.

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2007

Nature’s greatest recyclers. Host Charlotte Holt and Field Producer Eric Rodgers go on safari with Entomologists Cam Lay, assistant head of the Department of Pesticide Regulation, and Eric Benson, Clemson Extension urban entomologist, as they examine the role that insects lay in recycling waste products, wood, and other organic matter. The Money Follows the Person. Jon Keith hosts a live call-in program on a federal Money Follows the Person grant awarded to the state of South Carolina by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. His guests include Teresa Arnold, legislative director for AARP-SC, who chairs the Blue Ribbon Panel to advise the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services in efforts to rebalance its long term care funding so as to appropriately finance home and ommunity based long term care services; Gwen Gillenwater, executive director of the Disability Resource Center, a federally funded Independent Living Center that provides services and advocacy to people living with disabilities in Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester and Williamsburg counties; Rafe Ellisor, a licensed social worker currently working at Health South Rehabilitation Hospital in Columbia; and MFP Project Director Barbra Link and Bureau Chief Sam Waldrep from the Department of Health and Human Services Bureau of Long Term Care. Economic development activities in Columbia, SC. Donna London, director of the Jim Self Center on the Future, talks with Mayor Bob Coble of Columbia about the innovative methods of economic development that have earned the City of Columbia an award from the Municipal Association of South Carolina for economic development achievement.

History and the holidays. Interpreter Ellen Harrison gives us a preview of a 19th century re-enactment event to be held the first weekend of December at Ashtabula, an historic house located on Highway 88 east of Pendleton. Ticket information is available at the Pendleton Historic Foundation.

Physician and wellness expert Dr. Ann. Bob McAnally visits withAnn Kulze, a nationally recognized expert and motivational speaker in the areas of nutrition, healthy lifestyles and disease prevention, and the author of Dr. Ann's 10-Step Diet: A Simple Plan for Permanent Weight Loss and Lifelong Vitality.

Autumn in South Carolina . Naturalist Lisa Wagner, director of education at the SC Botanical Garden, considers the changing seasons.
