Closed Courses

Waitlist

If you cannot register for a closed course, you can add yourself to the waitlist if a space is available. Department use of the waitlist is optional. If you waitlist a class, be sure to check your email regularly. If you receive email notification that a seat has become available, register for the class within 24 hours of the notification. If you do not register within 24 hours of notification, you will be removed from the waitlist automatically. You may not waitlist a class if you are enrolled in another section of that class.

How do I add myself to the waitlist?

  1. If there is space on the waitlist, click Add to add the class to your summary
  2. From the action drop down box for that class, in the summary, select "Waitlist"
  3. Click Submit. You will see the class now says waitlisted

What does it mean if there appears to be a place in the course but I cannot register?

This is because waitlisted students are allowed 24 hours to change their status from "Waitlisted" to "Registered". During this period, spaces are set aside from students; even though they appear to be available, no one else is allowed to register.

Once I have been notified that a place in the class is available to me, how do I change my status from "Waitlisted" to "Registered"?

In the Register for Classes window, use the action drop down box in the summary to change the course from "Waitlisted" to "Registered". Click Submit.

What if I miss my 24-hour window to change from "Waitlisted" to "Registered"?

You will be removed from the waitlist after your 24-hour window has expired. You would need to add yourself back to the waitlist in iROAR.

How do I drop the course if I change my mind while I'm on the waitlist?

In the Register for Classes window, use the action drop down in the summary to change the course from "Waitlisted" to "Drop". Click Submit.

Request a Seat in a Closed Course

The Request a Seat in a Closed Course form is the University’s official way for you to request a seat in a course that is at full capacity. The tool allows departments to gauge unmet course demand. Students who complete the form will be contacted if the department is able to open additional sections or increase capacity.

Add yourself to the Request a Seat in a Closed Course list in iROAR 〉 Student Self-Service 〉 Student Registration 〉 Request a Seat in a Closed Course.

Please note:

  • This form should not be used as a means to request an override for course restrictions you do not meet
  • Being added to a section is at the discretion of the individual department. The academic department cannot guarantee your choice of section will be granted.
