What's New in IBC Pilot for Post-Approval Follow-up: The Office of Research Compliance (ORC) is implementing a post-approval follow up program of research activities at Clemson University. It will include announced visits with principal investigators to provide an additional opportunity for communication between the ORC and the investigator and to assess compliance with approved protocols. Anticipated start date for this program is September 2006. Click here to learn more about the post approval follow up program. Change in procedure for submitting Annual Continuing Review: At the time of continuing review, a new Hazard Acknowledgement Form needs to be submitted with it that has the original signatures of all of the members of the research team working on the project. Updates to the IBC forms: When submitting a new IBC application, Hazard Acknowledgment form, or amendment form, please use the current forms on the IBC website http://www.clemson.edu/research/orcSite/orcIBC_Forms.htm. The Office of Research Compliance updates these forms as needed and using the forms on the website will insure that you have the most current one Annual BBP training: OSHA mandates annual Bloodborne Pathogen training (BBP) for those working with blood, human blood components and other potentially infectious material. New protocols or continuing reviews cannot be approved until there is documentation that individuals needing the required training have done so. Click here for Clemson University’s online BBP training program http://ehs.clemson.edu/training/BBP/index.html. Human Cell Lines: All cell cultures and body fluids of human origin, including well- established commercial lines, must be handled in accordance with the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard and under Biosafety Level 2 (BSL2) containment. Click here for the "Policy of the Use of Human and Other Primate Cell Lines." Select Agents: Certain biological
organisms and toxins are defined as “Select Agents” by the
U.S. government and have special restrictions on their use. Anyone desiring
to work with these biological hazards must have security clearance to
do so, and have special security procedures in place for their laboratory.
Investigators wishing to work with any of these agents must contact Robin
Newberry (the fully authorized Responsible Official) prior to doing any
work. He can be contacted at 864-656-1806 or at wnewber@clemson.edu.
The current list of “select agents” is available at http://www.clemson.edu/research/orcSite/orcIBC_Reg.htm. |
