Title:

Electroactive Polymeric Composite Materials Incorporating Nanostructures

Inventor(s): Nader Jalili, Earl H. Wagener, John M. Ballato and Dennis W. Smith, Jr.
Abstract: Disclosed are improved electroactive transducers and methods of forming the disclosed transducers as well as products that can be beneficially incorporate the improved transducers. Transducers of the present invention utilize a composite polymeric material incorporating a plurality of nanostructures in combination with one or more electroactive materials in a polymeric matrix so as to provide electroactive transducers that can, among other benefits, exhibit increased efficiency in energy conversion. The disclosed composite polymeric materials can be utilized for developing “smart” fabrics, membranes and/or films with applications in separation technologies, distributed shape modification, and energy harvesting, among others.
