Internal Funding Opportunities

The University makes investments in support of its research mission by aiding and assisting faculty, graduate students and staff in their research.  This research is vital in helping Clemson attain its goal of becoming a Top 20 public institution.

University Research Grant Committee (URGC):

  • University Research Grant - Each fall, the Vice President for Research (VPR) and the University Research Grant Committee (URGC) announces a call for internal proposals. The purpose of the University Research Grant is to stimulate tenure and tenure-track faculty research initiatives and further this research so that it can be funded extramurally. New faculty (5 years or less at Clemson) and faculty making mid-career changes in research areas with tenure or tenure-track status are eligible to apply. Watch for this announcement in September or October.
  • Project Completion Grants – Beginning in spring 2011, a new internal funding opportunity has been made available to tenured and tenure-track faculty – the Project Completion Grants. The purpose of the University Research Project Completion Grant competition is to provide small grants to assist tenured and tenure-track faculty in the completion of a research or scholarly project or product.  “Project” or “product” can include peer-reviewed publications, scholarly books and presentations, or showings as in the case of the arts.
  • Alumni Award for Outstanding Achievement in Research - Each spring, the VPR accepts nominations for the Alumni Award for Outstanding Achievement in Research. Faculty members engaged in scholarly or scientific inquiry who conducted research in residence for at least 5 years can be nominated for this award. The award is presented by the Alumni Association and the Provost Office at the last general faculty meeting each spring. The request for nominations begins each February, and will be announced on this web site, through the Associate Deans of Research in each college, and in Inside Clemson.
