South Carolina Botanical Garden Creative Awareness Program
Purpose
The South Carolina Botanical Garden's Creative Awareness Program
uses personal sensory contact with natural areas to help release
an individual's natural abilities to relate. The program teaches
participants to critically think about making sense of their natural
lives by intensifying the sensory communication and support that
pervades self, culture and Nature.
Expanding Our Percepetion
Natural intelligence is the capacity of every organism to operate
as a self-organizing system for its well-being, the well-being of
its community, the well-being of its species and the well-being
of the global community. Even single cell organisms exhibit natural
intelligence. Intellect, on the other hand, is the ability to analyze
abstraction and hypothesis through reason and logic, and to express
this analysis through symbol and metaphor. Besides using intellect
to analyze our thinking perceptions, we also perceive through imaging,
feeling and sensing. Expanded perception is a result of connecting
with our sensing, imaging, feeling and thinking perceptions.

Increased
Consciousness
The result of expanded perception is increased consciousness of
our internal relationships and increased awareness of how external
relationships affect our perceptual processes. Being simultaneously
conscious of inner relationships and aware of outer relationships
allows us to consciously align our thoughts, feelings and behavior.
Conscious alignment of thoughts, feeling and behavior results
in integrity. This Creative Awareness program is designed to present
practices that promote the integration of our four modes of perception
and hone our creative capacity for consciously choosing to align
and maintain our pattern integrity. Creative awareness allows
our impact on the world to be a result of conscious choice through
aware practice.
