where Nature and Culture Meet

The Mission of the Sculpture Program

The South Carolina Botanical Garden Nature-based Sculpture Program Mission, Goals and Objectives.

The South Carolina Botanical Garden Nature-based Sculpture Program is administered through the Botanical Garden's Cultural Programs and is produced in partnership with Clemson University's Landscape Architecture program. The mission of this public art program is four-fold.

Part 1 of the Mission
Part 2 of the Mission

Part 3 of the Mission
The third fold in this mission is to:
1) allow humans an opportunity for a passive, non-interpreted awe inspiring connection with sacred space in Nature

2) allow adults and children of all ages and socio-economic status a common ground in which to share experiences where both are simultaneously the "informed authority"

3) provide quiet, contemplative, meditative space for people to reconnect with their authenticity and repair from the stresses of indoor, industrial, mundane life

4) create a shared space with wildlife to encourage people to realize that even though their homes and yards are human constructs, they remain a part of Nature and that the responsibility to share all spaces with all of Nature's creatures is everyone's responsibility.
