How aware are you of the problem of childhood overweight in our community? What evidence do you see in your work? Outside your work setting?

• Anderson Med Health Campus meets in Atrium.
• Schools – see the students
• Clinic Visits
• Head Start
• Media

What’s happening in our community that supports healthy eating among children? What needs to be changed to help children eat better?

• School food service improvements
• Vending machines choices
• Newsletter to parents educating them with practical tips
• Media emphasis on healthy eating

What’s happening on our community that supports physical activity among children? What needs to be changed to help children be more physically active?

• Walking club/running clubs
• Recess too short and withheld for misbehavior
• Change candy reward system. Walk with “Docs”
• March of Dimes
• Community walking tracks
• Sidewalks – bring them back
• After school programs

Are you or your organization currently working on the issue of childhood overweight? What is being done?

• Resources are there but too little an not available for all
• Rec. center, swimming program, Anderson / Afterschool (PA) coordinated school health with partners and Anderson med.
• After school snack program in middle schools and some elementary
• “Just do it” program.

What resources already exist in our community that can be used to help families eat better and be more active?

• Could lower fees or subsidize without a cumbersome process
• Wm. Floyd center available on public transportation
• Medi-low fat, eating crockpot
• Resource center at Anderson Mall has a lot of info and health professionals on nutrition
• DHEC nutrition/directions. Dot link.

Would you be interested in participating in a community coalition to address this issue? List other individuals or organization who may be willing to participate.

• Yes. Bring a partner to the meeting, representing another organization. Advertise/article in newspaper
