How aware are you of the problem of childhood overweight in our community? What evidence do you see in your work? Outside your work setting?

We are aware via clinic work and seeing kids that are overweight. Different health fairs and BMI showed some evidence

What’s happening in our community that supports healthy eating among children? What needs to be changed to help children eat better?

• Preschool Educational Program to include kids, parents and caregivers
• 4-H Nutrition program for 4th – 8th grades
• Diabetic Educational Program – Parents influence their kids
• Better teaching for the teachers within the schools and the help of health professionals teaching the teacher
• School Board programs for better Nut, educational programs

What’s happening on our community that supports physical activity among children? What needs to be changed to help children be more physically active?

• Right weight to Healthy Walking Trail
• Bike riding program via DHEC
• Rec. Commission will be increasing programs for activity
• After School activity program for middle school kids
• Better PE programs that focus on increasing activity levels
• Promote activities that rural area kids can take part in

Are you or your organization currently working on the issue of childhood overweight? What is being done?

• Right Way to Health Trail > Adults will size kids
• Healthy Kids – Healthy Community > 4-H program
• Writing article on Stop Centers to go along with Walking Trail

What resources already exist in our community that can be used to help families eat better and be more active?

• Clemson Extension Office
• Newspaper
• Diabetic health Office
• Different Walking Trails
