How aware are you of the problem of childhood overweight in our community? What evidence do you see in your work? Outside your work setting?

• York County Teen Center keeps record on health issues. Sees a lot of youth overweight. Has one 12 year old, 300 lbs., 5’7’
• Dr. Hanson refers patients to the Teen Health Center. Every well exam goes over health and nutrition

What’s happening in our community that supports healthy eating among children? What needs to be changed to help children eat better?

• Healthy Eating for Healthy Living – Teen health center – course for kids $15 for 4.5 hours. Sessions – almost like a support group
• School Health education has a grant to children and weight
• Rebound has a grant to work with children and weight, there was a nutrition education and walk mentors

What’s happening on our community that supports physical activity among children? What needs to be changed to help children be more physically active?

• Getting exercise equipment in schools with the grant for school health education
• YMCA possible programs – gave free passes to kids in “Healthy Eating for Healthy Living”

Are you or your organization currently working on the issue of childhood overweight? What is being done?

• Yes – healthy eating class and physical activity every class
• 4-H Nutrition Education – also Independence schools
• School Health Educators – Grant specifically to work on children and overweight program for Ft. Mill school district
• Teachers ask for teacher education
• Sudia – Alternative breakfast programs – meals in classrooms

What resources already exit in our community that can be used to help families eat better and be more active?
