Important Course Information

  • BIOL 1050 and 1101 in FALL and BIOL 1060 and 1111 in SPRING
    Day labs are reserved for freshman due to common exam testing in the evenings. Upperclassman will need to register for the evening labs.
  • ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY I & II
    Course: BIOL 2220/2221 (fall)
    BIOL 2230/2231 (spring)

    Biol 2220, 2221 also offered in Summer Session I

  •  Note: BIOL 2220 and 2230 serves as elective credit only for all Biological Sciences and Microbiology students, with the exception of B.A. Biological Sciences (Prerehabilitation Sciences Emphasis). 

Prerequisite Information
Contact the instructor of record by email if you don’t meet the prerequisite, requesting entrance and taking full responsibility of material without preq. Preq overrides will not be given without the instructor of record’s consent. Two examples follow for students to email instructor for approval:
"I do recognize that I do not have the prerequisite classes for Biol 2220 and understand that I am putting myself at a disadvantage when taking this course. I understand that I may need to work harder for my grade and take full responsibility for doing so."
Or, "I am aware that taking the courses out of sequence could put me at a significant disadvantages AND that I accept responsibility for identifying areas of weakness and working to overcome them."
Restricted by Field of Study
The majors that require the course for their curriculum in order to graduate from Clemson are allowed to register for the course during registration. Majors that do not require the course within their curriculum are restricted.
To Request BIOL 2220 or 2230
Students meeting any one of the following critera may submit a request to enroll in BIOL 2220 or 2230 by clicking HERE.

  • A & P as an option (but not required) in their curriculum
  • Change of major students
  • Post-graduation requirements
  • Preparing for the MCAT test
  • Shadowing a major where A & P is required


Once early registration is over,the registration coordinator will work on registering these students into the course upon availability of seats. Notification of enrollment will be sent via email from the registration coordinator.


  • CROSS LISTED (LINKED) SECTIONS
    Courses: BIOL 4xx0, 4xx1
    Credits: 2
    The lab consists of both 4xx0, lecture portion and 4xx1, non-credit laboratory to accompany 4xx0. So, students must register for the same section numbers of 4xx0 and 4xx1. Click on course reference number (CRN) to see the cross listing (pairing).
    Both CRNs have to be registered at the same time when registering. As a general rule, the lecture portion of the lab immediately precedes the non-credit laboratory.
  • CLINICAL APPLICATIONS & MEDICAL PRACTICES
    Course: Biol 4890/4891
    Credit: 3
    Fall semester offering: medical emphasis 1 section
    Spring semester offering: medical emphasis 1 section & dental emphasis 1 section
    -Not offered in the summer term
    -Requires consent of instructor
    -Enrollment selected by application process
    Instructions:
    Each semester, usually 2 months before early registration, a flyer is sent to undergraduate major email lists advertising the course and designating the deadline date to apply.
    -Applications are accepted for about a month time period designated on the flyer. Application cover page and a one-page essay need to be submitted to the registration coordinator, cjdunca@clemson.edu during this time period.
    -Applications are turned over to instructor of record who will review and select students to interview. The interview process takes place during the month before early registration.
    -Upon final selection from the instructor of record, the registration coordinator will grant overrides for accepted students to register.
    -Notification by email of override granted will be sent to selected students by registration coordinator.
    -Students can register during early registration.
  • CREATIVE INQUIRY: Two courses of CI available
    Course: BIOL or MICR 3940, Creative Inquiry I

    Student must contact the instructor of record to gain permission to take creative inquiry with that instructor.
    Upon approval, information required for registration coordinator to grant override is as follows:

    The default credit is the minimum credit allowed which is 1 credit in this course.
    The student will need to change the default credit of 1 if the agreed upon credit is 2 or 3 after registering for the section.

    Upon approval, information required in order to grant override by registration coordinator is as follows:

  • INTERNSHIP
    Course: BIOL or MICR 4920
    Variable credit 0 to 4
    Fall or Spring term offering

    Requires consent of instructor
    Student instructions for Fall or Spring terms:
    -Student contacts the internship mentor directly to apply for internship opportunities at an institution.
    -Student then completes the internship contract, signs it and secures the signature of the supervisor from the internship institute.
    -The instructor of record for Biol /Micr 4920 needs to approve internship for credit prior to internship starting. Email instructor of record a brief outline of internship (needs to be more than shadowing a doctor) to ask for approval to take Biol/Micr 4920 for credit.
    -Upon approval, the Registration coordinator will grant the override for student to register.
    -NO CREDIT will be given for internships that were not agreed upon in advance by instructor of record for Biol/Micr 4920. This contract is not accepted retroactively, or after the last day to add a class.
    -Student submits internship contract and study plan with the number of credits desired to registration coordinator before the beginning of the semester in which the internship will take place. One credit given for every 45 hours of work up to 4 credits in a semester. Submit to cjdunca@clemson.edu or 127 Long Hall.
    -The final report and supervisor evaluation will be submitted the last week of classes before final exams start to the registration coordinator. Internship instructor of record will grade internship and submit a grade of pass/fail at grade collection time.

    NOTES on Summer semester:
    The same rules apply for Summer as the Fall and Spring terms with the following difference:
    In order to get credit for a summer internship, you must register and pay for the desired number of summer school credits.

    Credit options for Summer registration:
    Register for 0 credits: do not pay tuition and the internship is on transcript with no academic credit.
    Register for 1 to 4 credits: pay tuition and internship is on transcript with academic credit.

  • INTRODUCTORY MICROBIOLOGY
    Course: MICR 2050/2051 - Transfer course
    Credits: 4
    Fall semester offering only
    Recommended for students not majoring in Biological Sciences. NOT open to microbiology majors.
    In order to fulfill the MICR 3050 requirement the student must take a special examination to earn exemption credit for MICR 3050.
    Students with transfer credit of MICR 2050 are encouraged to seek special examination credit as early as possible in case they do not pass and must register for MICR 3050.

    General Micriobiology Course

    Also offered in first half of Summer (SS I) with no major restrictions
    Fall semester:
    No restrictions to sections. 
    All lecture and lab sections open to any major. 
    Spring semester:
    Micro majors restricted to lecture section 003 & lab sections 001, 002, or 003.
    Non-micro majors restricted to lecture section 001 or 002 and lab sections 004-014.
  • NO WAITLISTS ON BIOL OR MICR COURSES
    All terms
    During early registration, if a course closes there will be no waitlist available from the add/drop area.
    Students will need to use the Request Closed Course function in iROAR, if there are courses they cannot register for, but would like to take. This feature will only display courses where the maximum enrollment has been reached. They can access the closed course function via iROAR > Student > Registration > Request Closed Course.
