Interest
  • Analytical/computational work
Facilities
  • Low turbulence wind tunnel, Turbocharger

Washington University

Past experience includes the following:

  • The design of prescribed-curvature-distribution airfoils for high-efficiency gas turbine cascades.
  • The analysis of unsteady flow fields in axial-turbomachinery stator-rotor interactions (unsteady flows, forces, and heat transfer).
  • The prediction of the transient thermodynamic response of turbomachinery components and plants (including axial and centrifugal compressors and turbines, and heat exchangers).
  • Experimental measurements of transient flows in centrifugal compressors.
  • The design and performance predictions of regenerative gas turbines.

Much of the above work is analytic and computational. Some capabilities in our laboratories include a low turbulence wind tunnel with test section 2 ft. by 2 ft., various lasers, and a turbocharger set up for steady and transient flow measurements.
