TURBINE RESEARCH PROGRAM ADDS ACADEMIC ADVISORY BOARD
CLEMSON - The Clemson-based University Turbine Systems Research (UTSR) Program has established an academic advisory board, consisting of representatives from universities involved in gas turbine research. The board will advise the industry and the U.S. Department of Energy on research topics and proposed research programs.
UTSR was developed by the DOE National Energy Technology Laboratory, in coordination with the South Carolina Institute for Energy Studies located at Clemson University. The research program supports and facilitates development of advanced energy systems involving turbines through a university research environment. The university research is guided by an industry review board consisting of turbine manufacturers and other power-generation corporations.
The industry review board has appointed Richard Huntington of Exxon Mobil as liaison to the UTSR Academic Advisory Board. He will provide guidance to the DOE during selection of research topics and projects.
The program, which began in 1992 and is projected to conclude in 2008, uses existing university research capabilities to introduce students to and engage them in high level turbine research relevant to advanced energy systems development and student learning. There are 111 member universities representing 42 states and 14 major corporations involved in the UTSR.
