"Working together to revitalize the SC Shrimping Industry"

"The current economic crises faced by the domestic shrimp industry is unprecedented - in scope, magnitude, and duration. Over the last three years, four unrelated conditions combined to create a 'perfect, economic storm' that has engulfed shrimp fishermen..."*

*from the forward to A Retrospective of the Current Crises, published by Texas A&M University Sea Grant

In response to this crisis, the South Carolina Shrimp Partnership is a collaborative effort by Clemson University and the state's commercial shrimping industry to provide immediate economic assistance to shrimpers and to create a sustainable shrimp industry in the region. The assistance program is made possible with grants from the National Marine Fisheries Services and from the U.S. Congress through efforts by Senator Fritz Hollings.

These efforts involve partnerships with various groups to provide information and economic relief. In addition, Clemson researchers are studying various ways to provide long-term sustainability for the industry.
