South Carolina Seafood Alliance Work Plan 2003-2004

Internet Visitor Assistance

The Alliance will conduct interviews and assess the costs of obtaining personal services for determining the feasibility of directing tourist traffic interested in seafood to the South Carolina coast through Internet visitor site techniques. Specific Alliance restaurants would be highlighted or linked to encourage increased restaurant membership. Experiential activities, such as festivals, etc. would also be referenced at the site.
Specific qualified interests identified first quarter; projected costs for Internet link development obtained by second quarter. A report detailing the findings and making recommendations for obtaining funding to initiate the effort will be provided at year’s end; quarterly progress reports will be provided through the year.

Internet Website Development

The Executive director and the executive committee of the Seafood Alliance will interview selected candidates / organizations to develop an Alliance website. The Board will make the final selection and authorize expenditures from the enclosed budget for the website creation and maintenance with updates.

The website is envisioned as containing information about the S.C. Seafood Alliance, the state of the shrimp and seafood industry in South Carolina, provide website browsers with hints on how to select top quality shrimp and seafood, and encourage patronage of member business. Coming events within state, such as Seafood Festivals, to encourage South Carolina residents as well as tourist visits will be highlighted.

The website will need to be able to be updated regularly to educate browsers as to the seasonal availability of locally (South Carolina) harvested seafood, its anticipated price range, and selected sites from which it may be purchased. This is expected to be a selling point to seafood outlets and restaurants to encourage Alliance membership, as well as allow for product pricing adjustments. The website may be able to highlight particular harvesters to give browsers a “connection” to the industry participants. The Executive Director and Executive Board will develop suggestions for possible website content, sales concepts, subject material for use by the contractors and will review the website as it is developed.

Bid proposals will compiled and solicitation of potential subcontractors will be completed in the first quarter. Interviews will be completed in the second quarter with the winning bid award. Advertising the website existence will commence immediately thereafter. Progress will be reported to Clemson quarterly. A report of ‘hits’ and modifications made to the site will be delivered at year’s end.
