South Carolina Seafood Alliance Plan of Work 2003-2004

Visits to industry cooperators

Key Alliance personnel will conduct visits to at least two representative business of each industry cooperators type over a six-month period. Each such information transfer visit will help in compiling a list of the perceptions as to the problems and solutions that industry segment, as well as the industry as a whole, face. The Alliance is made up of Fish and Shrimp Farmers, Shrimpers, Longliner fishermen, Crabers, Oystermen and Clamers, Wholesale Distributors, and Retail Outlet segments (seafood markets, restaurants). Results of 14 visits will be compiled and reported to the Alliance Board and to Clemson University.

Alliance Board meetings will be conducted at least quarterly, with minutes sent to industry segment representatives for distribution to their constituents. Minutes will also be sent to Clemson University for posting on the shrimp website. Four meetings with handouts.

Key Alliance personnel, as well as all Board members, will seek to expand membership participation, particularly within their own segments of the industry. The restaurant component will be specifically targeted. A 20% general membership increase and signing–up 5 upscale lowcountry restaurants per quarter is the goal.
