Objective 5.
To develop governmental and institutional support to include state seafood testing programs.

The industry believes that while it has primary responsibility for its vision and mission, there are a number of critical supporting roles to be played by agencies of government at the local, state and federal levels as well as by academic and other institutions. The industry has made a preliminary allocation of 5% of its regional funding (~$184,300) toward this support. These elements may include:

  • Educate government officials at the state and federal levels on the importance to the industry of creating new or enforcing existing standards for chemical and other contaminants in both imported and domestic shrimp.
  • Work with agencies of government to create a system with assigned responsibilities to monitor industry quality assurance programs.
  • Provide marketing support
  • Conduct scientific research
  • Manage fisheries for a sustainable yield
  • Assist in creating higher education support programs for shrimp industry dependents

Assist in coordinating SC industry plans with those of other states in the region.
