Private Pesticide Applicator's Recertification Training
| Name | David Parker | | Situation | The end of the current "five year block" for private applicators is December, 2004. According to records provided by the Pesticide Regulation Department, a large percentage of private applicators had received few if any recertification credits by late 2003. Private applicators needed the opportunity to receive a large number of credits in a relatively short time span.
| | Response | A recertification class was scheduled for Oct. 14 at Spartanburg Technical
College. The meeting was scheduled for the evening hours (6:30 p.m.) in an effort to reach as many "part time" farmers as possible. Applicators could receive from one to five recertification credits, depending on their individual needs. The training lasted approximately three hours.
| | Impact | A total of ninety-eight individuals received recertification credits at this meeting. Applicators were charged $10.00 per hour of credit received. Over $4000 of fees were generated.
