The Hendrix Student Center is named for Mr. Leon J. (Bill) Hendrix who is a Clemson Alumnus and was Student Body President in 1963. He is a Current Life Member on the Clemson University Board of Trustees.
The Hendrix Student Center has three floors with a total size of 108,000 square feet. It was designed by Neal, Prince, and Partners from Greenville, South Carolina. The General Contractor was Martin Engineering from White Rock, South Carolina. The building features a brick, stone and glass exterior. The focal point of the Hendrix Student Center is an atrium spanning the three floors of the building.
The total cost of the project was 17.5 million dollars. The total construction cost was 11.5 million dollars. The project was funded by private gifts, student fees, and bond proceeds. Construction began in December 1996 and the facility opened on March 27th 2000.
