Eligibility and Student Athlete/ Participation Guidelines
Clemson University Students (undergraduate and graduate), Faculty, and Staff are eligible to play within the following guidelines:
Students - must be currently enrolled in at least one three-hour academic class at Clemson University and be a member of Campus Recreation (undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in less than 6 credit hours must pay the Campus Recreation fee).
Employees (Faculty & Staff) - must be employed full-time by the University (30+ hours/week or have full faculty status) and have paid the appropriate Campus Recreation membership fee.
Varsity/Junior Varsity Athletes* - Varsity or Junior Varsity athletes or participants and athletic scholarship recipients are ineligible to participate in the sport/associated sport in the same academic year. (i.e. if you were a member of the Clemson University Baseball team in the spring of 2005 you are ineligible to participate in intramural softball until fall 2006). This rule applies to athletes from all colleges, universities, community colleges and technical schools. Varsity/Junior Varsity Athletes are eligible to participate in intramurals providing they adhere to the Student Athlete criteria and eligibility verification process mentioned below. **Beginning in the 2009-2010 academic year, each team will only be allowed one (1) former Varsity/JV Athlete in their respective/associated sport.
Walk-On/Practice Players* - Varsity level participants who do not play in a game but are currently practicing on an athletic team are ineligible to participate in the sport/associated sport for one year from the conclusion of the last season they participated in. (i.e. if you were a Walk-On/Practice Player on the Clemson University Baseball team in the spring of 2005 you are ineligible to participate in intramural softball until fall 2006) This rule applies to athletes from all colleges, universities, community colleges and technical schools. Walk-On/Practice Players are eligible to participate in intramurals providing they adhere to the Student Athlete criteria and eligibility verification process mentioned below.
Club Sports Members* - Students who are currently playing or practicing on, or traveling with, a club team are considered a Club Sport Member in that sport/associated sport. Club Sports Members are eligible to participate in intramurals providing they adhere to the Student Athlete criteria and eligibility verification process mentioned below.
Professional Athletes - are permanently ineligible for all leagues in the sport or associated sport in which they were considered "professional".
*Student Athlete Criteria - Teams are limited to the following number of Former Varsity/Junior Varsity Athletes, Walk-On/Practice Players, or Club Sports Members on the roster for the sport or associated sport in which they were a participant. **Beginning in the 2009-2010 academic year, each team will only be allowed one (1) former Varsity/JV Athlete in their respective sport.
- Basketball - 1
- Flag Football - 2
- Volleyball - 2
- Sand Volleyball - 1
- Soccer - 3
- Indoor Soccer - 1
Intramural teams with ANY Former Varsity/Junior Varsity Athletes and/or Walk-On/Practice Players must participate in the advanced division (if offered) of the sport or associated sport. Club Sports Members may participate in any division.
*Eligibility Verification - It is the responsibility of the Team Captain to notify the Intramural Sports Office that a Student Athlete (Former Varsity/Junior Varsity Athletes, Walk-On/Practice Players, or Club Sports Members) will be playing for verification of their eligibility. If their status as a Student Athlete is not presented to the IM Sports Office prior to their addition to a roster they will be considered an ineligible player and that IM team will forfeit any game(s) the individual participated in, and their chances to advance to the playoffs. ALL Team Captains and Student Athletes must notify the Intramural Office of their Student Athlete status before participating in ANY Intramural Sport.
Not Eligible to Participate - Alumni, Family, Spouse, Children, Wellness, Corporate, or Community members and any other persons not affiliated with the University in a student or employee manner.
In order to participate in any intramural contest, each player must present their current, valid Tiger-One Card to sign in for the first game and get on the roster. Once the Intramural Staff has confirmed that the player has been added to the roster, any Government issued picture ID will be accepted.
*Waiver*
All participants must sign a waiver to participate in ANY Intramural Sport activity. Players can go online and sign the waiver or sign a waiver at the field. A player will not be allowed to participate without signing a waiver. If he/she attempts to and succeeds in participating in a contest before signing the Waiver Form that team will forfeit the game and their playoff eligibility.
