Participation in CORE
CORE activities are open to participation by Clemson University students and members of Fike Recreation Center. Trip size is limited and registration is on a first come, first served basis. To register, come by the Program Desk in Fike Recreation Center. Students and members of Campus Recreation receive a reduction in program fees (Note: Program fees are nonrefundable with the exception of a program cancellation or when the participant finds a replacement.) Each trip has a pre-trip orientation meeting for which attendance is mandatory. Participants unable to attend the scheduled meeting should contact the Trip Leader in advance to arrange a make-up time.
Outdoor adventure activities can be exciting and rewarding, but by their very nature they may also be physically demanding and potentially dangerous. While highest priority is given to safety, participants need to be aware of the inherent risks associated with participation in outdoor recreation activities, and the responsibility they assume for their own safety and well-being. Participants are responsible for medical or other costs arising out of bodily injury, illness, or property damage that may be sustained as a result of their voluntary participation, and they are required to sign a Release and Waiver of Liability/Informed Consent.
Job Opportunities
Students with outdoor recreation skills and group leadership experience are needed to serve as trip leaders. Applications are available at the Program Desk on the second level of Fike Recreation Center.
Custom Adventure Trips
Groups wishing to experience the wilderness may contract with CORE to help plan, coordinate, and provide leadership for an outdoor adventure trip designed on the basis of their interests and expectations. The program fee is dependent upon the type of trip, group size, and the services to be provided by CORE. Additional information about Custom Adventure Trips and how to get started in planning your group’s first trip is available in the CORE office.
Equipment Rental
Personal equipment used on adventure trips is the responsibility of the participant. As a service, the Clemson Outdoor Recreation and Education Program has a variety of backpacking and camping equipment available for short term rental.
Things To Keep In Mind
Wilderness travelers should assume responsibility for the care and preservation of the natural world they visit. Traveling in small groups lessens impact and encourages environmental awareness. Fire rings for cooking are discouraged, and the use of stoves is recommended. Garbage should always be packed out. Information on "Leave No Trace" camping techniques is available in the CORE office.
The CORE office is located in 202 Fike Recreation Center. For additional information about CORE programs and services, give us a call at (864) 656-2353.
