Alternative Break Program (ABP)

What is the Alternative Break Program?

The Alternative Break Program is an organization that provides students the chance to exchange their fall and spring break vacations for an unforgettable service-learning experience. Clemson is a chapter member of the national Break Away organization.

Where has ABP been?

Where is ABP going?

  • Fall 2008: Charleston, SC
  • Spring 2008: Two trips, TBA

    What are students saying?

My overall impression of the trip was very positive. On Wednesday morning during our last leg of work, a number of us were already making mental plans to return sometime next summer. I brought back the feeling with me to Spartanburg and spent the weekend sharing stories and reprioritizing that which I appreciate. - Annie Zeiler, ABP Spring Break 2006

The [Alternative Break] Program has this weekend, as well as in the past, made a huge impact on my sense of cultural awareness and my knowledge of the social issues that affect the members of our society. I plan on being involved with this program for as long as possible due to the quality of people involved with all aspects of the program. I cannot express my thanks enough to ABP and all of the youth, staff, and volunteers at [the Department of Juvenile Justice] for giving me the chance to experience one of the best weekends of my life in college. - Jon Luttrell, ABP Fall Break 2006
