Our Resident Directors supervise a variety of communities including traditional single- sex halls, coeducational suite-style halls, apartments, and fraternity and sorority housing. Below is a description of each of the areas across campus.
The area that we believe most people are familiar with in housing is traditional residence halls. At Clemson, we have 10 facilities that are setup as such. Below is a description of our special programs and learning centers within the residence halls.
The First-Year Experience Program (FYE)
Mission Statement
The mission of the First Year Experience Program (FYE) at Clemson University is to enhance the greater missions of the Division of Student Affairs and the University through student centered services and programs. The FYE program will serve as a springboard to campus resources, services and opportunities that promote personal growth and academic success.
Learning Outcomes
The FYE (First Year Experience) program is structured to bridge the learning opportunities in the residence hall with those among the campus community allowing students to take full advantage of the programs designed to promote a successful transition. As a result, the FYE program will be implemented and evaluated on these learning outcomes:
-
Students will demonstrate the knowledge and value of campus resources, services and opportunities by utilizing them to aid in a successful transition to the campus community.
-
Students will gain an understanding of their role and responsibilities within a community and understand the importance of being part of a sustainable society.
-
Students will identify and develop skills and strategies that enable the achievement of their academic goals.
-
Students will develop an awareness of self as it relates to interacting with others in their community.
-
Students will gain skills that support their interpersonal growth and development.
Upper Class and Apartment Housing
- We have four buildings on campus that are co-educational, suite-style facilities. One of these residence halls houses approximately 300 of our Honors students – both a selection for freshmen and upperclassmen.
- We have three traditional on-campus apartment areas. These apartments house two, three or four students. One facility is organized as four private bedrooms with a shared common living space. Each apartment complex also has a commons building that meets the community’s needs with a large meeting/social room, laundry facilities, a computer lab, vending machines and an administrative office.
Fraternity and Sorority Housing
Fraternity and Sorority Housing at Clemson University welcomed the newly renovated Fraternity and Sorority Community on the Quad in 2006. For the first time in Clemson's history, the Quad houses not only the Interfraternity Council chapters, as in previous years, but also chapters from the National Pan-Hellenic Council and the Panhellenic Council. This milestone in Clemson's history marks the beginning of new collaborations and new traditions within the Fraternity and Sorority community.
- The Fraternity and Sorority Quad includes the addition of two new buildings, a kitchen in every chapter house, interiors appointed with high-quality furnishings, a west-end terrace with two entertainment pavilions, and a basketball court.
-
The Fraternity and Sorority Quad houses 12 chapters of the Interfraternity Council, 4 chapters of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, and 3 chapters of the Panhellenic Council. The remaining 6 chapters of the Panhellenic Council are housed in our traditional residence halls, Smith, and Barnett Halls.
