Student Learning Outcomes

Student affairs professionals have a particular responsibility for ensuring that our campus is a true learning community committed to providing “transformative” educational experiences for all students.The Clemson University Division of Student Affairs has adopted four student learning outcomes:

  • Self-Knowledge
  • Leadership and Communication
  • Social Responsibility
  • Life Skills Application

Each of the departments within the Division of Student Affairs has identified specific student learning outcomes to address during the 2007-2008 academic year. The student learning outcomes for University Housing are:

Leadership and Communication:

  • As a result of residential life philosophy and programmatic efforts, students living on-campus will learn to be functioning members of a community as evidenced by respect for others, maintaining interdependent relationships, observed levels of citizenship, and a desire for social justice

Social Responsibility:

  • As a result of residential life philosophy and programmatic efforts, students living on-campus will learn to be functioning members of a community as evidenced by respect for others, maintaining interdependent relationships, observed levels of citizenship, and a desire for social justice
  • As a result of on-campus living, students will choose to employ the principles of environmental stewardship as evidenced by reduced energy costs and increased participation in recycling and other environmental programs.

Life Skills Application:

  • Through staffing models and support programs within University Housing, students will practice the skills necessary to independently care for ones self. This learning will be observed by residence life staff through student decision making in the areas of safety, security and wellness.

  • As a result of on-campus living, students will choose to employ the principles of environmental stewardship as evidenced by reduced energy costs and increased participation in recycling and other environmental programs.
  • Students who live on-campus will recognize the priority of academic life via residential curriculum and RA mentorship as evidenced by completion of their ePortfolio requirements, knowledge of the General Education competencies, and higher GPR’s and retention rates than their off-campus counterparts.
