The University's municipal judge serves as the department head for the municipal court. He/she is either directly or indirectly responsible for all court functions. Those functions include, but are not limited to:
- Issue arrest warrants, search and bench warrants for all offenses that occur within the municipality.
- Conduct bond hearings for all persons arrested within the municipality.
- Preside over bench and jury trials for all offenses that occur within the municipality and that fall under the subject matter jurisdiction of the summary court. (Generally those violations for which the penalty does not exceed $500 or 30 days imprisonment.)
- Coordinate the Parking Review Board.
- Budgeting and other administrative duties of the department.
