Office of Community and Ethical Standards

Education and Outreach Opportunities

There are many ways in which the Office of Community and Ethical Standards supports the educational missions of the Division of Student Affairs and Clemson University. Our office also has several types of outreach opportunities designed to help students become successful here at Clemson University. Below you will find a description of a few of our programs and services. However, we are always open to suggestions of what you would like to see. If you have any ideas please share them with us by contacting Justin Carter at jcarte2@clemson.edu.

Education Services
Computer Misuse Class
Clemson University's computer network now makes it easier for student and faculty researchers to share data with colleagues around the world. At the same time it allows users to easily download copyrighted music and movies without consent. This class is designed to serve as an early intervention educational sanction. This class will show students how the Recording Industry Association of America and the Motion Picture Association of America work with the university to identify campus piracy and illustrates what is acceptable use of the university's computer networks.

Community Development and Responsibility
The community development and responsibility course is intended to be an early intervention educational sanction for students who have been found in violation of minor infractions of the Clemson University Student Code of Conduct and/or the University Housing Contract. The goal is to reinforce the standards of the Clemson community and help students understand the components of a successful community and employ best practices in their daily interactions with the community.

Hot Topics Workshop
From topics such as “Incorporating the Core Values into my Clemson Experience,” to “Making Smart Choices,” we can create the right presentation for your organization, your residence hall, or just for you and your friends.

Study S.M.A.R.T.
Study S.M.A.R.T. is our end of semester study break program that encourages students to study in safe and acceptable ways. The acronym stands for Safe, Mindful, Alert, Responsible, and Trustworthy.

Outreach Opportunities
Separated Student Outreach
For students who have been suspended and want to return to Clemson University, we want to do everything possible to ensure a smooth transition back into campus life. This service ensures that students are ready to resume the responsibilities of a student and provides additional assistance throughout their first semester back to campus.

Citizens-of-the-Month
The Citizens-of-the-month campaign is our opportunity to identify and honor those students who are serving as role models for other students by exhibiting the core values of Clemson in their daily lives. If you know someone and would like to nominate them for this honor, please submit their name and  a brief supporting statement to our office. Winners will be named monthly on our blog: CUcorevalues.blogspot.com.

Conflict Mediation-NEW
A new process that will allow students to resolve conflicts with each other without having to go through a formal disciplinary process and will not become a part of the school record. Students can resolve conflicts quickly and confidentially through the assistance of a mediator. Workshops are available, please see the link below.

Restorative Justice-NEW
A violation of the University's student code of conduct is a violation of individual people or the Clemson community. This violation creates an obligation on the part of the student. Restorative Justice brings together all the parties associated with a particular incident and discusses how to repair the relationship as well as alleviate the harm caused. Utilizing skills learned in the Conflict Mediation Workshops, facilitators for Clemson's Restorative Justice program will be able to help affected parties in a restorative justice mediation work through issues. Workshops are available, please see the link below.
