Be an Ambassador
 

Orientation Ambassadors are students who are well-respected, academically successful, leaders on campus. These students are chosen based upon their interpersonal, academic, and leadership skills.

Orientation is the process of assisting new students through the transition necessary for a successful college experience. Clemson University Orientation Ambassadors are peer leaders who facilitate this process by providing new students and their parents with an introduction to campus and its resources.

Qualifications

  • Must be available for ALL dates listed below
  • Must enroll and/or participate in EDC 390 Sect. 6- Ambassador Leadership and Training on Tuesdays 3:30-6:15pm; this is a condition of employment
  • A minimum GPR of 2.5 is required.
  • Attend Clemson University in the Fall '08
  • Be currently free of any academic or disciplinary probation as set by Student Code of Conduct or the Academic Integrity policy.

Responsibilities

  • Encourage students to participate in all Orientation activities
  • Acquaint new students with the campus environment
  • Make themselves visible and easily identifiable as Ambassadors and serve responsibly in that role
  • Assist in the preparation of Orientation activities
  • Facilitate small group discussions on various topics at orientation
  • Represent Clemson University to students and parents
  • Facilitate small group meetings
  • Escort parent or student groups
  • Assist with registration and academic advising sessions
  • Assist with check-in
  • Staff the Orientation information desk when needed
  • Begin working in the Orientation office in April
  • Assist with January 2009 Orientation
  • Assist with other programs dedicated to freshmen in the fall and spring semesters

Important Dates

Orientation Ambassadors must be available for ALL training sessions and programs.
  • December 6, 2007: Congratulatory Social 8:30pm, Union Recreation Center
  • January 11-13, 2008: Orientation Ambassador Retreat
  • January 15 - April 22, 2008: EDC 390 (Training) from 3:30pm - 6:15 pm.
    We will enroll you in this course upon job offer to be an Ambassador.
  • February 23-24, 2008: National Scholars Weekend
  • March 7-9, 2008: Southern Regional Orientation Workshop
  • April 1, 2008: Begin spring office hours 15 total
  • May 17: Discover Clemson
  • May 30 - June 13, 2008: All day intensive training
  • Orientation dates are:
    • June 16-17, 19-20, 23-24, 25, 26-27, 30-July 1
    • July 7-8, 9, 10-11
  • Fall activities during the week of August 16-19
  • January 4-5, 2009: January Orientation Sessions

Application Process

Applications may be obtained and submitted online by clicking here. Candidates must complete the application process and interview to become a Clemson University Ambassador. The applications are due on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 by 4:30 p.m. and the dates for the interviews are Wednesday, November 28 - Tuesday, December 4, 2007.

Summer Classes

Ambassadors do not have to take any classes, but if desired, All Ambassadors can take Maymester Courses as long as their course schedule accommodates training sessions and office hours. Ambassadors cannot take classes during Summer Session 1.
