Counseling and Psychological Services offers testing for learning disorders and Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder on a limited, first-come-first-served basis. Depending on the test battery, the cost of the evaluations ranges from $350 to $550. The number of evaluations conducted depends on the number of professional staff available that semester. For the Fall Semester of 2007, CAPS will conduct approximately 18 evaluations.
If a student is interested in being tested for either a leaning disorder or ADHD in order to receive accommodations from the University’s Student Disability Services or obtain accommodations on a nationally standardized test such as the GRE, LSAT, or Praxis, the student should call the Testing and Evaluation coordinator at 656.5806 or come by the CAPS office as soon after 8 a.m. as possible on the first day of classes at the start of the semester to arrange for one of the 18 evaluation appointments. Messages left before 8 a.m. will not be returned.
If the student fails to keep the initial appointment without notifying CAPS, that person will be dropped from the queue, and the evaluation opportunity will be given to the next available student. Once the testing battery has been determined, usually during the first meeting, the full fee for the service will be due before actual testing will begin. CAPS does not file insurance, but Redfern provides documentation to send to your insurance carrier. Once the evaluation has been written, the student will meet with the evaluator for a complete explanation of the findings. If the student meets the criteria for a learning disorder and/or ADHD, two copies of the evaluation will be provided to the student: one for student files and one for SDS.
