Leadership Courses (HEHD 400)
 

Leadership ClassThe Center for Student Involvement, in conjunction with the College of Health, Education and Human Development, offers a series of three leadership courses open to all students sophomore status and above. 

HEHD 400/600 - Introduction to Leadership Theories and Concepts - Interdisciplinary course introducing students to the nature of leadership. Students will gain a broad understanding of the history and origins of leadership, theoretical approaches to leadership, and the essence of contemporary leadership. Students will be encouraged to test their ability to apply these concepts to life experiences.

HEHD 410/610 - Leadership Behavior and Civic Engagement - Students will couple concepts of social justice and civic engagement with theoretical foundations from the first course (HEHD 400/600) to complete a comprehensive theory to practice project. Students are introduced to a comprehensive leadership skill set to become active change agents for the common good.

 HEHD 420/620 - Leadership Application and Experience - Students are immersed in a practical leadership experience utilizing knowledge and skills gained in prerequisite courses, HEHD 400/600 & 410/610. Students identify an issue or problem and practice leadership by developing and implementing a community project. Students are challenged to commit themselves to long-term engagement as agents of change.
