My Research Project:
Ultra-wideband technology involves transmitting pulses with durations
of less than one nanosecond across a wide range of frequencies.
The bandwidth occupied by a
UWB signal is on the magnitude of several GHz. Many UWB
proponents believe that because the signal's
energy is transmitted across such a large range of frequencies,
there is minimal interference with other signals. A UWB communication
system can
deliver data at extremely high rates (over 500 Mbps) up to 10
meters. This
technology has important commercial applications, especially in an
office environment.
In my project, we used a pulse position modulation technique with time
hopping to transmit a UWB signal. Our goal was to design a
receiver with low error rates based on the modulation scheme employed
and the multipath channel model used.
