Initial Overview

This summer I will be working with Dr. Baum in an effort to come up with a better simulation model for ad hoc wireless networks. The widely used current simulation model - Random Waypoint Model - has problems associated with it. Some problems with this model include: (1) Nodes tend to spend most time around the middle of the region. (2) Nodes tend to spend the most time on long links at the slowest velocity. (3) If one starts a simulation by picking a uniform starting position, it takes a very long time until asymptotic performance is realized. So, in an effort to come up with a better model, two of the models that we will examine include: (1) Random Waypoint Model with obstructions (2) Smart Random Waypoint Model with obstructions. Obstructions in the model can block a combination of mobility and communication. The forms of mobility blocking we will examine include: a) Total b) Partial. The forms of communication blocking we will examine include: a) Total b) None.
