The South Carolina Technology Transfer Service is one of 57 Local
Technical Assistance Program ( LTAP) centers nationwide.
LTAP was established by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)
in 1982. Our operational funds come from FHWA with matching funds
from the South Carolina Department of Transportation.
The LTAP centers, generally located at Universities or State highway
agencies, serve over 38,000 rural, local and tribal agencies.
Each center provides a unique range of transportation skills and
expertise geared toward improving the local transportation infrastructure.
Some of the basic responsibilities include:
- Publishing a quarterly newsletter
- Serving as a clearinghouse for local transportation agencies
to obtain publications, videotapes, and other technology resource
materials
- Maintaining a comprehensive, up-to-date mailing list of local
officials having transportation responsibilities
- Conducting training for local transportation agencies
- Providing information on new and existing technology
- Performing a program of self-evaluation to assure that the
service continually meets the needs of local transportation
agencies
