Course Description:

This seminar will cover all aspects of decorative concrete from manufacturing of decorative concrete add mixtures and tools, to the latest techniques in decorative concrete applications. Attendees will learn about the manufacturing and quality control process for decorative concrete add mixtures such as integral colors, stains, and color hardeners as well as stamps and other tools of the trade. Attendees will also learn about the latest techniques and applications of stamped and stained pervious concrete.  The seminar will also include a lengthy discussion on all of the latest types of decorative concrete applications including their installation techniques. These applications include decorative concrete paving, thin overlays, stenciling, acid stain, and lithocrete just to name a few.

Course Instructor: Jim Miller, Clyde Cobb & John Fletcher

Jim Miller has 10 years experience as an admix specialist for Master Builders. He was VP and partner for Nycon Midwest for 7 years. Jim started C2 Products in 2003 which sells THE BEAN®, and is currently the company president. He played an integral part in developing Indiana’s Pervious mix design and methods for placement. Jim a certified pervious trainer in Indiana and is a Pervious Craftsman with more than 4000 cubic yards experience since 2004.

Clyde T. Cobb is a pillar in the decorative concrete industry for close to 20 years, Clyde T. Cobb, President of Specialty Concrete Products, Inc. (SCP), has always had a bright vision for the future.  After graduating with a business degree from the University of South Carolina in 1985, Mr. Cobb worked in commercial and industrial flooring, where he began to specialize in decorative concrete and paving techniques.  Using this knowledge, he founded SCP in Columbia, SC in 1992.  Soon after, Mr. Cobb earned a US Patent for his Stencil-Crete® concrete resurfacing system.  His influence grew with his company and in 1997 he was named Vice Chairman of Bon Tool, China and Director of Yi Pin Iron Oxide Pigments, China.  In 1998, he was named Director of Yi Pin Iron Oxide Pigments in the United States, as well.  In 2002, Clyde founded Creative Urethane Concepts, Inc. (CUC), also located in Columbia, and acquired the StampMaster® brand of concrete stamping and texturing tools.  Mr. Cobb currently lives in Lexington, SC with his wife and two children.

John Fletcher is a part of Carolina Bomanite Corporation. This is a family-owned business with 34 years experience with designing and installing high quality decorative concrete paving, and delivering superior service to its commercial and residential customers.

Schedule:

Class registration is from 8:00-8:30. The class will begin at 8:30. Lunch will be provided. We should adjourn around 4:30pm.

Who Should Attend:

This seminar, intended for architects, engineers, landscape architects and contractors, will focus on all aspects of decorative concrete from raw material acquisition to the latest installation techniques and applications.

Course Fee:

The registration fee for the workshop is $100.00 per person. All South Carolina city, county, or state employees receive a LTAP scholarship registration fee of $25.00. The fee includes course materials, break refreshments, and the noon luncheon.

Advance registration is encouraged so that an accurate estimate of the number of workshop participants can be obtained. Workshops with low advance registration will be subject to cancellation.
