Course Description:

This workshop will provide practical system design approaches implementing pervious concrete pavements as a solution to reducing stormwater runoff from impervious pavements and surfaces. Presenters will share with attendees their approaches and methodologies used to provide stormwater solutions for actual projects. This workshop will help attendees develop details and write specifications for pervious concrete pavement systems.

Course Instructors:

Christopher J. Estes is president of Estes Design, Inc., an environmental design and consulting company that specializes in low impact development, storm water quality, and environmental
regulatory services.

Mr. Estes received a B.A. in Landscape Architecture from the School of Environmental Design at the University of Georgia in 1988. Before starting Estes Design, Mr. Estes worked for the City of Charlotte Engineering Department for 11 years, including 9 years in the Storm Water Division.

Currently, Mr. Estes is focusing his efforts on the restoration and protection of water quality by targeting sources of negative impact associated with impervious pavement. His most recent projects include combining best management practices such as bio-retention and pervious concrete. His current research is storm water infiltration rates into piedmont soils.

Jason Wimberly is the Director of Technical Services for the Carolinas Ready Mixed Concrete Association (CRMCA). The CRMCA is the trade association representing the ready mixed concrete industry and its associated member companies throughout North and South Carolina. Jason’s responsibilities include the promotion of ready mixed concrete products, in particular, pervious concrete and concrete paving. He also provides technical project assistance and educational programs to engineers, architects, contractors and other construction industry participants, both private and public.

Mr. Wimberly holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Tennessee as well as a Master of Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University where his research involved the “Mechanical and Hydrological Properties of High-Voids, Pervious Concrete.” Mr. Wimberly has worked in and around concrete for more than a decade including experience as a concrete contractor, quality control and technical sales for a ready mixed concrete producer and his current role for the CRMCA.

Mr. Wimberly is currently registered as an Engineer Intern with the State of Tennessee and will soon be submitting his application for licensure as a professional engineer with the State of North Carolina. In addition to spending time with his family and friends, he enjoys participating in his community through his Masonic Lodge and volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America.

Who Should Attend
