Course Description:
This one-day course teaches the basics of work zone traffic control. Intended for crew leaders, supervisors, and engineers (DOT, utility, county, municipal, and contractor), it is designed for anyone working on the highway. The course covers short-term operations (no longer than one work shift) on two-lane, two-way roads, and focuses on daytime activities. Traffic control concepts are presented using models, displays, and group exercises.
Course Instructor: Timothy Baughman
Timothy B. Baughman, P.E., Program Director for Local Governments for the Institute for Transportation Research and Education (ITRE), will teach the course. Mr. Baughman is a career work zone traffic control engineer. His career began with the SCDOT as an Associate Traffic Engineer, and then he became a Signing and Marketing Engineer, then a Field Operations Engineer, and finally a Work Zone Traffic Control/Design Engineer. Mr. Baughman joined ITRE in 1992 and has continued to work extensively in the work zone traffic control and safety area.

Class registration is from 8:30-9:00. The class will begin at 9:00. Lunch will be provided. We should adjourn around 4:30pm.
Who Should Attend:
This course is designed to teach DOT, utility, county, municipal, and contractor supervisors, foremen, and engineers the basics of work zone traffic control. The course covers short-term operation (no longer than one work shift) and focuses on daytime activities.
Course Fee:
The registration fee for the workshop is $125.00 per person. All
South Carolina city, county, or state employees receive a LTAP
scholarship registration fee of $50.00. The fee includes course
materials, break refreshments, and the noon luncheon.
Advance registration is encouraged so that an accurate estimate
of the number of workshop participants can be obtained. Workshops
with low advance registration will be subject to cancellation.
