In 1950, Clemson had it’s biggest band yet with 94
members
The Concert Band, later to be known as the Symphonic
Band, was officially organized in 1951 and made it’s
first appearance before an audience of 2400 at the Clemson
Christmas show sponsored by the Clemson College Band and
Glee Club
In 1955, Clemson College was opened to a “civilian
status,” it became a coeducational institution and
Clemson's Tiger Band was formed with director Robert E.
Lovett. The Department of Bands was created, as administered
by the Office of Student Affairs
