John Q Tree: The John Q Tree for this program is Longleaf Pine. more>> Signs in the Forest: We have all seen lines of holes in the bark of trees. Some may know the species of bird that makes these holes and when they are made. Dr. Drew Lanham introduces guests to the yellow bellied sapsucker, a bird that over winters in our area. You may be surprised to learn why these holes are made in a tree. Kids in the Woods: Join kids from Six Mile, SC as they look for and learn about tree roots. Can you name seven functions for tree roots? The kids will show you and tell you lots of cool things about root function and distribution. A Wild Moment: A bird often associated with Longleaf pine forests is the red cockaded woodpecker. Dr. Drew Lanham introduces this endangered species and shows you the bird in its natural habitat.
