The CMPT is required of each new student (freshmen and transfer) entering Clemson University even if the student has math credit through Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or work taken at another college or university. The CMPT is used for assessment and for placement.
The CMPT is available on-line to all new students as of April 15, 2003.
The CMPT must be taken prior to the student attending summer orientation. No score on the CMPT will result in placement at a lower level than the math course required by the student's major.
The CMPT can only be taken once. No retakes are allowed.
If the student took the CMPT prior to the end of the Spring semester of 2002, he or she is required to take the CMPT again if they are enrolling in the Fall of 2003.
A student is required to submit documentation of course credit earned for all math course prerequisites. Lack of documentation will result in the student being dropped from math.
Questions about the CMPT (other than whether a student must take it-no exceptions allowed) may be directed to: Dr. Rick Jarvis, Professor and Coordinator of Instruction.
