Boundary Conditions
The Creative Inquiry Task Force considers the following guidelines as boundary conditions that define Creative Inquiry at Clemson University.

1. Creative Inquiry activities should be themed, and themes should extend through multiple semesters.
2. The minimum acceptable time range is two semesters, although three or four semester durations are preferred.
3. Students may receive course credit through the department sponsor, or through Creative Inquiry (CUCI) or Service Learning (CUSL) courses (useful for multidisciplinary groups). A minimum of 6 credit hours or approved equivalents are required.
4. Creative Inquiry activities are open-ended, faculty-directed experiential learning that might include:
Art/sculpture/performance
Capstone experiences
Community projects
Computer programming
Co-operative Education
Education action research
Field study
Focus groups
Internships
Lab study
Literature analysis
Service learning
Theoretical analysis
Video production
Web site development
5. Creative Inquiry can be individual or team-based.
6. Departmental faculty will assign grades. Appropriate mentors are approved before activities begin, and might include:
Administrators
Alumni
Business leaders
CU staff
Emeritus Faculty
Entrepreneurs
Extension agents
Faculty
Government personnel
Grad Students
Industry
Personnel from other schools
Politicians
Religious leaders
Retired community
7. Students will create a record of their Creative Inquiry activities for inclusion in their electronic portfolios by providing evidence and reflections on activities. Products might include:

8. Mechanisms for recognition, such as degree notation, should be explored with student input.
