Master Tree Farmer Mini-Series
| Name | Jeff Fellers | | Situation | Union County is a rural area where many families own land for recreation, hunting, farming and home site purposes. Many people plan to pass these lands down through the generations to keep it in the family. However, without proper planning, this land can be lost after the death of the owner due to heirs having to pay taxes from the estate. | | Response | Clemson Extension was offering a Master Tree Farmer broadcast series to inform people how to prepare their land for the next owner. Since Union County is a rural county where forested land will be handed down through generations, I thought that this program would be worth offering in Union County. The viewing site for Union County was at the Clemson Extension Office. Union was one of about thirteen counties in the state that was able to host a viewing site. Six people to attended the seminar. | | Impact | After participating in the program, four people completed and returned an evaluation. Of those four, all said that they had increased their knowledge and expected to save money because of what they learned in the course. They also agreed that they would be making changes in their planning for the next owner and adding items to their existing will. The participants of the program expressed to me several times that they felt the course was well worth the money. |
