The Birdgirl |
|
Quickly, She ran. Far into the forests, where the portal lay. Her baby tucked underneath her arm began to cry. The baby was named Raven, and last in line to the children of birds. Descended from the greatest beings in Raelithi, the world from which she came. Raven would never know her mother because it was destined that Scarlett, former Queen die. The Queen had taken poison to protect Raven, for she loved Raven with all her heart. The Queen had a secret, and she had kept it from from the man she had married and loved. And the father of Raven didn’t know he was the father. She gasped from the pain in her belly, she wouldn’t have to wait very long to die and see her beloved again. She called from the sky, her faithful servant, the shape-changer Nim. "You must take her Nim. Too the world...of the humans. Go! Before Kadence..comes... " as she started to leave Raelithi , and her last words where: " Tell... her I loved... her." Then she died with a smile on her face. She had left, and that was the way Raven's father found her, her father, killer of the King. . . . . . . .

Nim shed his tears in the world of humans, for he would miss her badly. He changed to his human form, and picked the letter tucked inside Ravens little bundle. He opened it and his heart hurt to see Scarlett's, the queens handwriting. In side were two letters; one for him, and another addressed to Raven. August, 12 of 1956 Dearest Friend, Nim. I have taken the poison , and have died by now. Find a place to take Raven, somewhere safe in this world. you will see things you don't like here Nim, and until she is 12, you cannot tell her about me. Until she is ready, do not tell her who her real father is. Teach her all the Magic you know of the Birds. You know everything about them and more. Find her when 12 years have passed, and give this to her on her birthday. Scarlett Once Queen
In the package was a necklace, a charm of a bird, and it was Raven's spirit caller. He would wear it until then. He crouched in the corner and tucked his letter in his pocket, and changed into a bird again. He built a makeshift nest of twigs and such as a place to spend the night. Tucked under her his wing the babe fell asleep, and so did Nim. Early morning he left the nest again and flew around a while in search of a place for her to stay. None were good. In all of them, he could see naught but thin, and ill children who looked weak. One boy was beaten outside, a resident of the warehouse. A whip thrashing in the air, cruelly coming down on the boys back, and making scar upon scar. The boys blood had spilled on the side walks, and was red. The boy was left on the ground, beaten half to death. Nim stopped his flight and changed to his human form, and picked up the boy. Angry as he was, he could not tell the man who had beaten this boy anything. Silently, he swore under his breath. But there was something he could do…. Waving his fingers and chanting he pointed to the general direction the man had gone. A scream from the inside of the warehouse. Chuckling underneath his breath Nim escaped from the Warehouse with a very bright smile on his face. Raven would have to go to the nuns. Life there would be harder for Raven, she might grow up to believe her abilities were of the devil. But the nuns were kinder than these brutes. He would visit her dreams then. And that didn’t even take much spirit channeling. He would take the boy there too. He needed medical attention. He walked to the nunnery in London to deliver the boy and the nuns saw too him. In the form of a bird, he got Raven and took her to the balcony of the church. He happened to have put her in the window of the nursery. A brightly colored room held the children. In pink and blue, the babies wore either of the colors. He stepped inside to get a better look, but a as he did so, the nun, who thought he was a bird, shooed him away. And that is where Raven stayed for the next 12 years. |

Chapter One: ‘till Then When Raven was two, she began to show signs of what she was, A birdgirl. The nuns loved Raven, for she was easily the cutest, brightest child in the room. Raven had begun to speak at an age of 6 months. By the time she was two, she had the vocabulary of an eight year old. “Ca-at! Please? One more game of hidden-peak?” Raven begged. Of all the nuns Sister Katrina was easiest to sway. (she was also the nun who found Raven in the balcony and when Raven was even smaller, she couldn’t say Katrina, so called her Cat.)Of course she said yes because Raven had her rapped around her finger. “Go hide now, child.” She ushered her, “ and Don’t Clime the stairs!” Cat began to count…… Raven ran with all her might and what seemed like more to get away from the pain growing from her shoulders. Her clothes ripped to bring out a large pair of a ravens wings. Raven began to think it was a dream, so she understood it was wings, and could they fly? A Raven was meant to fly, she decided. She stretched her wings out, and she realized that in a bird world she would be considered a baby– bird, so…. She would have to jump off a high place! And Raven knew exactly which one would do.
Climbing up the stairs, she maneuvered her little body to fit where the highest and best flying spot would be. At the very tippy top. So as she was about to fly, Sister Katrina “Cat” found the hidden one. Screaming, she startled Raven, and she lost her footing, and fell, but, she had wings to lift her up, and trying to free them, she flew out of the church and into the sky. And Sister Cat fainted, for she had thought she wouldn’t see them again. Raven flew, as no one had flown before, for Raven was a borne flyer. And all that she saw was from the eyes of a bird. And sister Katrina knew all of this, because she had been gifted with second sight, and could watch Raven. Many years ago when Katrina was young, she had seen things that she knew that if other people knew she would be thought crazy. But then a man with difference about him had come, and they had fallen in love. And their children were here with the rest of the nuns, and they had his eyes, and her sight. And she knew that they would disappear in the years to come, and of the children who disappeared, one would die. As she flew, another bird drew close to her. And he spoke to her, but the language was harsh, a series of clicks, and whistling. But the strangest thing was that she understood it all. I will visit you in dreams, do not forget me, do not go to the dark of the dreams. Make friends with those you like, for they are to be used when we make the stand.
How will I know you? You are not what you look.
You will know. Go back now, and find the twins.
Putting her wings away as she came upon the church yard, she saw the twins, Emily and Jay in the yard. His words echoing in her head, she began to speak with them. Both were the same age, and Raven was generally kept apart from them, because Cat didn't want them to scare her. But she was not afraid. He knew they were safe. "What do you want Raven?" Questioned Emily. " To be your friends. To know what I must as you have known Em." They laughed. " She is one of them." Emily whispered to Jay. "She knows him! Our father." Answered Jay spitefully. "We are supposed to know her, to find him. Momma said so. We have seen Em. She is one of us." James reluctantly said. Louder, so she would know, " I need you to become our friend, and tell us what you know. We are the answers to your questions." But far away, A bird cast a spell, so they would forget why they became friends in later years.
"RAVEN! I am waiting! Emily, Jay, get your behinds down here. And give it to me like it really IS!" Penny said. Or, her birth name, Priscilla. Penny for short, she was the new bully at the school, and she had a thing for Raven especially. Penny was loud, and had large lips and had issues with the nuns. Raven held her breath. Penney! Sometimes I want to squish you for doing this to us. Emily and Jay had nothing to do with that boy you fancy. They simply played a game. Earlier in the day Raven had Emily and Jay with her and they were reading tarot cards, a favorite toy of Emily’s and they had foretold Penny’s future. And Emily had decided to play a trick on her. Raven smiled at the thought. We had a right good time with that. Everyone knew Penny fancied a boy named James who lived in the orphanage as well. Penny was a bully though, and often times didn’t know how to act around a boy. Emily had said that The boy Penny loved would never love her as she did him, and Penney had taken it a little to seriously. Jay had decided to but in, and he told Penney that her children would never be born. Unfortunately…. She had taken that as a sure sign that they were up against her. But Raven knew that the second half, Jay’s prophecy, was true. They had long since learned that the prophecies they gave (not the ones that were fake) were true. Each knew the others darkest secrets. Raven could fly, and use something of magic. Jay could tell prophecies and turn invisible. Emily could tell prophecies and change into any type of object or animal she wished. All of them were special, and they knew they were different. Unfortunately Raven could not fly out of this. They would have to wait forever or until Nim came. Nim visited her dreams, and Emily and Jay did not know this, and it was the one thing she held back because Nim was their father. “On their own time, I must tell them once they are ready.” She remembered. She also remembered a little magic…. Mumbling under her breath, she sent a nasty little spell towards Penney’s hair. She laughed and told her friends. Tomorrow would be fun. Crashing on the Rocks, the cycle of water never ends. It is everywhere. It's in the air, soft and sweet, and sometimes it falls. It is reminding us in this action that all things end good or bad. Water ripples and morphs into shapes, like humans, who grow, and interrupt the stream. Water can be foolish, as it sometimes through a fit. The water is also an element. Old as time, and both do not stop. It is because both keep moving, only going on, for it is the only place you can go. Only, unfortunately the water is sometimes the only one who remembers it. |

I am A Piano, the master of keys. My fingers make a dance, a certain type of romance, to play upon me.
Do you know how it feels to be played on? Your song goes on forever, You are a slave to the player, When played your joy is endless.
If you are left alone as a piano, you cannot play your own notes, you watch as your eyes slowly cloud over with dust, filling your heart with despair. And life without your master is chaos for a piano.
Then one day they notice you again, and they play you once more, but your keys are so badly out of tune, you can not even play a G#.
So they sell you to a shop, and you are kept polished and clean, but no one sits to play. On your head a plastic sign is taped on, And when no one buys you they lock you away.
There are other pianos there, like me. Broken, torn and with stories to morn. There is also a man who comes down here, he carries a stalk of wood, and brings with him cleaning mechanisms. He brushes a tall bristly, stick on the floor brushing it on and off repeatedly, ridding it of the unclean. It makes a rhythm.
How I was reminded of the old days, where my master would play my keys and polish me. But my master had abandoned me long ago and now I was here. It seemed as if this man knew this, and he pulled up a chair to play. I noticed a strange detail on his face, a black, transparent thing. And he played.
I began to sing again, as my keys danced. The man sang too, he danced his fingers on my keys His sound was tragic, and I put my heart and soul into our music. I loved the feel of his fingers pressing on my keys. His hands guided the music. Together, we found joy again |
