I AM A TREE
I AM A TREE Do you see my trunk so wide? I supply the world with breathe With the other trees at my side
I AM A TREE With branches swaying here and there I shelter these animals with my life And give them a large home to share
I AM A TREE My roots planted firmly in the ground I feed the crawling things below With my old leaves, many a pound
I AM A TREE Stronger than fifteen giants I don’t understand what is happening Weaker I am, but no less defiant
I AM A TREE Being wacked, sliced, and hit I try to fight for freedom and peace But these men who are hurting me don’t have much wit
I AM A TREE Being stripped from my strongest roots I have nothing left to do but to Let them bring me to those huge chopping shoots
I AM A TREE In the form of wood chips I’ve never been treated so badly Now I’ve been abused with everything but whips
I AM A TREE Being squeezed into mush I wouldn’t have known this was my fate When I once had a body so lush
I AM A TREE Bruised, beaten, pounded, and thin I am in the form of pulp Now I know I will never win
I AM A TREE Printed on my back is a small fee My packaging is all I see What has happened to a beautiful tree?

Sail Water thrashing at my side Beating me up with all it’s might Wind pounces at my sails so wide But I don’t give up without a fight
Protecting my sailor is my goal While slaving at his every will The main sheet races through its hole With water my deck starts to fill
His heavy body leans on my rail The tiller is yanked quickly to starboard Luckily my efforts do not fail And again we manage to sail forward

Purple Bell Glistening in it’s plastic container The purple bell lay Waiting to be brought Out of PETSMART that day
Finally it was taken home To a family’s new cat And fastened to the matching collar The shiny purple bell sat
The cat played with her toys All day and all night She was allowed to go outside, too And she almost always stayed in sight
One day the cat ran outside This was normal; the family never worried But when they rang her dinner bell She didn’t come back in a hurry
They waited and waited for three hours For their beloved kitty to come ringing Though there were no signs of her anywhere They kept imagining her purple bell singing
After two whole days without seeing their pet The father drove around to find her While the mother stayed home with the kids But they wouldn’t relax; two nervous they were
Father came home a long time later Carrying tufts of fur in his box for shells Some threads from her torn up collar And the still shining purple bell
Now her last items sit On the fireplace’s sill With the memories of their perfect kitty And a purple bell, forever still
