South Carolina Farm*A*Syst

Farmers in South Carolina can assess the risk of their own practices and learn ways to protect and conserve water through the South Carolina Farm*A*Syst Program. Completely voluntary and confidential, the program allows individuals to identify water pollution risks on their properties and develop plans for mitigation of these risks. Assessments are designed to be easy to use and evaluate and take into account external factors such as soil, geologic, and hydrologic features of the site and how these factors influence overall pollution risks.

Farm*A*Syst addresses a number of topics:
  • Protecting and improving drinking water well conditions
  • Improving pesticide storage and handling
  • Improving fertilizer storage and handling
  • Improving petroleum storage and handling
  • Hazardous waste management
  • Household wastewater treatment
  • Livestock waste storage
  • Livestock manure and nutrient management
  • Livestock yard management
  • Improving silage storage
  • ....and more.
