Ways You Can Help Protect Water Quality

There are a number of things every person in South Carolina can do to help preserve and protect our State's surface and ground water quality. Some are very simple, common-sense ideas that many people are already doing without realizing it. Others are somewhat more involved or less obvious, but are still relatively easy to do.  If everyone in South Carolina followed these few, simple ideas the reduction in  water quality problems would be dramatic.

    1. Maintain Your Septic System
    2. Recycle Used Oil
    3. Dispose of Household Chemicals Properly
    4. Don't Over Apply Pesticides and Fertilizers
    5. Use Compost On Your Lawn and Garden
    6. Conserve Water and Energy
    7. Plant Vegetation Buffers Along Streams,
      Rivers, Estuaries and Lakes
